Pick any car on sale right now. If it was offered with 50% more power, the same fuel economy, but also cost 50% more money would it be worth it? What would it take for the vehicle to be worth the new price point?
Example: CTS V-Sport, 420 hp and 430 lb-ft for $60,000. Plus 50 version becomes 630 hp and 645 lb-ft for $90,000. Still a good value?
Feel free to do the reverse as well and tell me if youd even consider the car at its new price point with half the power.

Only if it also then revs to the moon. I’m thinking flat-pane v8.

Hell yes. That’s what you get out of a Z06, for the same or slightly less money, but with more doors, more seats, and more luxury. Less speed, but who gives a damn when you can blow away almost anything in unbelievable comfort.
The Z06 makes even more of a bargain. 975hp/tq for (going entirely from memory) $187,500. Um, yes.

Stock power: 395 HP
Normal price: $28,965
New power: 592 HP

Almost 600 ponies for under $45k? How could you not take Chrysler up on this?

a 300HP BMW S1000RR for 30K? HELL TO YEA

Toyobaru! Currently 200HP and cost $20k. I would never buy one, but I could see spending $30k if it had 300HP.

Scat Pack: Now $60k with 730hp. Thats alarmingly close in both aspects to the Hellcat...

MKZ wins - absolutely wins. (also for easy math lol)
400 hp 400 torque and AWD for 42,810.
600 hp 600 torque and AWD for 64,215
Seriously, 600/600 and AWD means you get the most vicious sleeper that’s ever been.

$40k goes to $60k and 365hp to 576.5

New Mustang GT - $32,990 with 435hp.
Upgraded Mustang GT - $49380 with 652hp.
Sure, why not. However, remember you can get that 727hp Mustang for $40k, lol. If you think about that one:
Lebanon Ford Mustang GT - $40,000 with 727hp
Upgraded Lebanon Ford Mustang GT - $60,000 with 1090hp.
Sold.

A Z06 for $190k making 1000hp would be a rip off. Anything in the aftermarket could do it for less than 50% of the MSRP.
![]() 12/14/2016 at 16:39 |

...so you can make 1000hp for cheap and set up a beautifully handling chassis. So what? Check up on 911's, Ferrarri’s, Lambo Pagani Bugatti etc. 190k for an off the shelf car (which is what is under discussion) with 1000hp is dirt cheap.

2017 Mazda3 Touring 2.5 6-Speed
25 / 33 / 28 mpg
3,046 lbs
Stock / 150%
184 HP / 276 HP
185 lb-ft / 278 lb-ft
$22,395 / $33,593
Stepping up to the GT would add real leather for $35,843 and all the fancy stuff (LED lights, nav, heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise, etc.) for $41,145.
That puts it in direct competition with A3 and CLA (2 Series is definitely too much of a sports car to fit into this group), and I have to say, I think it holds up pretty well. It’s easily more attractive and powerful than the Audi or the Benz and has similar creature comforts.

Sport: $32,918
Touring: $36,293
GT: $46,043
That puts it squarely against the A4, C-class, and 3-series, but making an extra 20-some HP.

i think that i would take you up on the 50% off deal. i live down a winding country road, and so long as the car could still corner, id be down.mustang 5.0 34k-ish to begin with so half off right? 17k? 435 horse, down to 220........ in a manual.........AND able to drive flat out more of the time through the corners. win win........

I’m seeing $75,989 as the base price on the configurator, which means you’re looking at $113,984 for 975 HP / 975 lb-ft.
So 975 HP for $114K.
Damn.
![]() 12/14/2016 at 17:06 |
|
It’s actually $114K.
![]() 12/14/2016 at 17:22 |

I was thinking 125k for a specced to the max model. So yeah, 1000hp for 114k? Absofreakinglutely.
![]() 12/14/2016 at 17:25 |

GTI: $25k, 220bhp => $37.5k, 330bhp.
Not worth it, too much power for FWD.
Golf R = AWD, $39k, 290bhp, tons more features, bigger brakes and DCC. Much better.

That deep amethyst metallic CTS is amazing!

Toyobarus are $26-30K, not $20K.
But I would absolutely take a Performance Pack BRZ with 308 HP for $45K.

found one even BETTER, THE chevy spark. absolute base model goes for $13500, and has..........98 hp. taking the half off deal, thats ALMOST 50 hp, at $6750..... once again, corners here we come.. can almost afford this thing cash, if i dig around in the couch cushions.......
![]() 12/14/2016 at 17:37 |

What a fucking rip. I don’t know why I thought they were cheaper.

2017 Mustang GT Premium Performance Pack w/ Recaros

Good catch.

Except it’s pretty well stated by now that the chassis isn’t that beautiful when tied to even the stock 650hp. So that would make it worse.

The hilarious part is going the other way is essentially a what a Cruze hatch is in price and power

Golf R- 435hp, $58,500k
![]() 12/14/2016 at 20:07 |
|
$250k - 660hp
$375k - 990hp
That’s not bad for hypercar hp

it would be like buying a go-cart. with as underpowered as it would be you would be able to drive it as hard as possible at every opportunity. it would have about as much power as an old type 1 beetle. and when you finally did wadd it up, nothing of value is lost....
![]() 12/14/2016 at 20:09 |

I realize now that the Mustang GT is currently the best $/hp ratio car, that’s insane power for under $50k

Wouldn’t do it. Would rather have RS3.

Can’t argue with that

1000hp with a factory warranty, easy to obtain replacement parts, and a massive network of techs able to repair it would 100% be worth 190k. Sure you could do the same for cheaper in the aftermarket, but you get zero warranty, your parts are going to be hard to find, if they aren’t one-offs, and only (maybe) you and the guy that built it know exactly what part is where.
